Questions & answers
Good to know
Common questions about size, privacy, and cost.
How do I convert M4A to MP3 on a Mac?
Add the files here, pick a bitrate, and click Convert, the MP3 is encoded entirely in your browser with nothing uploaded. (Apple Music can convert within its library but it is fiddly and keeps everything as AAC/M4A by default.)
Which formats can I convert from?
Anything your browser can decode, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus and MP3. Output is always MP3.
What bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is a good default; 320 kbps is near-transparent for music; 128 kbps makes the smallest files for speech or podcasts.
Is there a length or file-size limit?
No fixed limit, but audio is decoded into memory locally, so very long files can be slow or run out of memory on low-spec devices.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding (Web Audio API) and MP3 encoding both run entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server.
Does it cost anything?
No, it is completely free, no signup.
