Isn't drawing a black box enough?
No, in most PDF editors (including Mac Preview) a black rectangle only covers the text; the words are still underneath and can be copied or removed. This tool flattens each redacted page to an image, so the hidden text is actually destroyed.
How do I know the text is really gone?
On any page you redact, the whole page is re-saved as a picture with the black boxes burned in. There is no text layer left on that page, so nothing can be selected, copied or extracted from under the box.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Rendering and redaction happen entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server. That is exactly why it is safe for tax, medical and legal PDFs.
Do untouched pages lose their text?
No, only the pages you actually redact are flattened. Pages with no boxes are kept exactly as they were, with their text intact.
Does it cost anything?
No, it is completely free, no signup.
