Create a ZIP
How it works
Three simple steps
A quick overview before you start, the tool guides you through each step too.
-
Add your files
Drop in (or pick) any files, they never leave your device.
-
Name the zip
Give the archive a name. Files keep the order you added them, and any duplicate names are renamed automatically.
-
Download
Get one .zip built entirely in your browser, share or store it.
Questions & answers
Good to know
Common questions about size, privacy, and cost.
How do I zip files without uploading them?
Add the files here, name the archive, and click Download. The .zip is built entirely in your browser using JavaScript, your files never leave your device and nothing is sent to a server.
What file types can I zip?
Any, documents, photos, videos, code, anything. The tool bundles the files exactly as they are into a standard .zip that any computer can open.
What happens if two files have the same name?
Duplicate names are renamed automatically, the second one gets " (1)" added before its extension, so nothing is silently overwritten inside the zip.
Is there a file size or count limit?
There is no fixed limit; it is bounded only by your device's memory, since everything is processed locally. Very large batches may be slow on low-memory devices.
Does it actually make the files smaller?
You can pick a compression level (None, Normal, Maximum). Maximum meaningfully shrinks text, CSV, logs and raw data. Photos, video, MP3s and PDFs are already compressed, so they barely change at any level, for those, None makes the fastest zip.
Is this more efficient than the built-in Mac/Windows zip?
On Maximum it uses the strongest standard zip (Deflate level 9), so it can edge out the default zip on compressible files. The output is a normal .zip any computer opens. For dramatically smaller archives of compressible data, a 7z format compresses further, but it is not openable without a 7z tool.
Can I password-protect the zip?
This tool makes a plain zip. To add an AES-256 password, use the Zip Password tool, also 100% in your browser.
Does it cost anything?
No, it is completely free, no signup.
