Questions & answers
Good to know
Common questions about size, privacy, and cost.
How do I compress an image to exactly 100 KB?
Add the image, type 100 in the target box, and click Compress. The tool automatically tries different quality settings until the file lands at or just under your target, all in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Why would I need an exact size?
Visa portals, government forms, job applications and exam sites often cap uploads (e.g. "photo under 100 KB"). Preview can't target a size; this tool hits it directly.
What if it can't reach my target?
A very small target on a large, detailed image may be impossible by quality alone. The tool gets as small as it can and tells you, then reduce the dimensions first with the Resize tool and compress again.
JPG or WebP, which is smaller?
WebP is usually smaller at the same visual quality, so it reaches tighter targets more easily. Use JPG when the upload site only accepts JPG/JPEG.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the canvas API, nothing is sent to a server.
Does it cost anything?
No, it is completely free, no signup.
